What We Accept and Need

  • Donations from grocery stores, retailers, manufacturers, processors, farms, distributors, wholesalers, and more.
  • Our most needed items: protein, fruit and vegetables, grains, cooking oil, and baby food and formula.
  • Dry, fresh, and frozen goods.
  • Short-dated products, close-to-code items, or dry goods close to the best-before date.

Food Safety

  • Food Banks Mississauga is committed to food safety.
  • Our team is trained in safe food handling practices.
  • We have refrigerated vehicles to ensure the safe transport of perishable items.
  • We maintain the cold chain from donation to distribution.
  • Our warehouse has a capacity of 1,000 pallet spaces, with a large fridge and freezer to accommodate substantial quantities of donated food.
  • The Donation of Food Act protects donors from liability when donating food in good faith.

Using Food Banks Canada’s Greenhouse Gas Calculator, we saved a total of 18,469,320 kg of greenhouse gas emissions across all of our programs.

Every year, $58 billion worth of food is wasted. That’s enough to cover groceries for 3.7 million Canadian families a year.
