The Mississauga Food Bank’s 2023 Spring Drive raised a grand total of $626,954, thanks to the support of the community. As the returning sponsor of this campaign, Scotts Canada Ltd. generously matched the first $15,000 donated.
The Spring Drive wrapped up as the urgent need for food banks continues to rise across Mississauga. The Mississauga Food Bank and its network of 50+ agencies saw an unprecedented number of food bank clients in the month of March, serving 16,068 people – a 61% increase from the previous year, making this the most significant increase ever in their history. And this need is only continuing to grow at an alarming rate.
“Food bank usage has already increased by 60% since pre-pandemic times in 2019, and we’re still seeing staggering numbers of food bank clients month after month,” says Meghan Nicholls, CEO of The Mississauga Food Bank. “We set a big financial goal this year that reflects the real cost of what it takes to feed our hungry neighbours. And while we didn’t reach our financial goal, we still want to thank our supporters for helping us raise $626,954 which equals food for 626,954 meals. Our work isn’t done, but your support is reaching those most vulnerable in your community today, putting food on the tables of those who desperately need it as we work towards a Mississauga where no one goes hungry.”
Thanks to supporters in the community who participated in the Spring Drive by donating funds and food, to hosting their own fundraisers, volunteering their time and coming out to local grocery stores to donate. If you’re looking to get involved, you still can! From larger corporate partnerships to community groups, schools and individuals, everyone is welcome to join The Mississauga Food Bank all year round.
