Orlando Corporation steps up with $150,000 match donation for Food Banks Mississauga’s Holiday Drive

Food Banks Mississauga projecting they will see 205% more food bank users this year compared to pre-pandemic

From now until December 31, all financial gifts made to Food Banks Mississauga’s 2023 Holiday Drive will be matched dollar for dollar by the Orlando Corporation, up to $150,000. The campaign launched on November 13, 2023, and runs until January 8, 2024, aiming to raise $2,000,000 – the largest Holiday Drive goal in the organization’s history. As of today, $1,539,309 has been raised.

Orlando Corporation has come forward at a time when Food Banks Mississauga is projecting that they will see 58,000 food bank users by the end of their fiscal year (May 2024), which is a 25% increase compared to their projections from just six months ago.

Food Banks Mississauga and its network of 60+ agency members continue to see record-breaking numbers of food bank users every month. The month of November saw the highest number of food bank users ever in their history, with 17,890 food bank users. This is a 50% increase year over year. 

“The need continues to skyrocket, and in six months, we have almost surpassed the total number of food bank users we served in the entirety of last year. Thank you to Orlando Corporation for answering our call and trying to help us meet this need with their gift that will match community donations dollar for dollar,” says Meghan Nicholls, CEO of Food Banks Mississauga. “There are unprecedented numbers of folks who are turning to a food bank in our city, and I hope that our community finds this as unacceptable as we do. Food insecurity isn’t always visible – it could be your co-worker, your child’s classmate, or the cashier at your local store. Every gift you make to our Holiday Drive goes to support these neighbours who are living with food insecurity in silence.”
