Thanks to your generous support, we’re excited to welcome two new neighbourhood food banks to the Food Banks Mississauga network, a big step forward to meet the need in our community.
In just a few years’ time, the number of people relying on Mississauga’s food banks has skyrocketed, from 25,801 in 2021, to almost 49,000 last year. Thankfully, as food insecurity continues to rise, our community has risen to the challenge, rallying together to ensure no one in Mississauga goes without the food and support they need.
Growing our city-wide network of agency members is one of the ways we’re working together to reach more neighbours in need.
That’s why we’re so excited to share that The Salvation Army Cawthra and The Salvation Army Meadowvale have joined us, providing two more places for neighbours to turn for healthy food and peace of mind.
The Food Banks Mississauga team is proud to join forces with The Salvation Army, long known for its tireless work to support neighbours in need and build a bright future for our whole community.
“We’re excited to welcome them to the network,” shares Nicole Norris, Director of Programs and Agency Network at Food Banks Mississauga. “With these new additions, people have more options and flexibility to get the essential food support they need.”
Joel Binner, Director of Community and Family Services at The Salvation Army Mississauga Community Church, is equally excited about this new partnership.
“We want a healthy, happy Mississauga,” Joel shares. “The Salvation Army in Mississauga is excited to be working together to ensure all Mississauga residents have better access and availability to food.”
It’s the support of caring people like you that helps Food Banks Mississauga link arms with other vital community organizations like The Salvation Army, growing our community’s safety net and reaching more people in need. And these crucial connections have never mattered more.
“We continue to see food insecurity rise here, and with it being declared an emergency, this expansion couldn’t come at a more crucial time,” shares Nicole. “Thank you for helping us reach every neighbour who needs us.”
