Your support is making an exciting new pilot project possible to better meet the needs and priorities of Black households in Mississauga

Twenty-five percent of the agency members in our network are Black-led, Black-focused and Black-serving (B3) organizations. They play an important role in serving a community that is disproportionately affected with high levels of food insecurity.

In partnership with Feed Ontario, Black-led organizations and community leaders, we are excited to take an important step to promote food security in Black communities. Through the new Culturally Responsive Food Pilot Program, families can now access foods that are not only healthy, but deeply connected to their cultures and traditions.

“This is key to our success as a community, our families’ success, and our health,” shares Dr. Horace Wright of Mississauga Community Services. “For so long, we’ve voiced our needs, but nothing changed. This program is a breakthrough.”

More than food: the power of feeling seen

For many, receiving culturally appropriate foods is about more than sustenance—it’s about recognition, dignity, and respect.

“When you give me corned beef and cornmeal, I feel valued,” says a representative from Global Family Community Centre. “It tells me, ‘We see you. We know you exist.’”

By prioritizing African and Caribbean foods, this program fosters a sense of belonging, showing Black neighbours that their cultures are being acknowledged.

You’re building a stronger, more connected community

This exciting new program is doing more than filling plates—it’s strengthening our community.

As we work to expand the program, your support means more families will experience the dignity, comfort, and choice of being able to prepare meals that connect them to their culture. Thank you for being part of this powerful change.
