Growing Good: A Partnership Rooted in Community

A brand new partnership is bringing fresh produce from the fields to neighbours facing hunger—with the help of caring supporters like you.

With the arrival of spring, FeedWell Fields is gearing up for another growing season.

Soon, rows of potato and yam seedlings will push up through the soil, and melon vines and callaloo leaves will unfurl—crops carefully chosen to nourish diverse communities across Mississauga.

This is the home of GrowFRESH, a partnership between Food Banks Mississauga and farmer Shika T., owner of FeedWell Fields.

Your generosity helps cover the cost of seeds and fertilizer—and grows into fresh, nutritious, and culturally meaningful food for neighbours who would otherwise go without.

Black, Caribbean, African and newcomer communities in Mississauga continue to experience food insecurity at a higher rate than other groups and have limited access to foods that reflect their cultural diets.

Thanks to your support, GrowFRESH provides fresh produce that honours cultural identity and preferences. Crops like African yams and callaloo were specifically chosen with input from the communities Food Banks Mississauga serves.

For Shika T., the work is about more than farming.

“FeedWell Fields was born from a simple belief: food security begins locally,” she shares.

“When we look after our neighbours, we strengthen the entire community. Together, we turn donations into nourishment, transforming generosity into real, tangible impact.”

Before long, those freshly harvested potatoes, melons, yams, and leafy greens will travel from the fields to food programs across our network.

And from there, they will land in families’ pots and pans, dinner tables, and lunch boxes.

And it all begins with caring people like you—helping fresh, culturally meaningful food reach neighbours across Mississauga. Thank you for making GrowFRESH possible.
