Meet May, one of The Mississauga Food Bank’s Volunteers:

“I started volunteering at TMFB in October 2016 to make better use of my time for a meaningful cause. I feel happy with the hope that my actions can help someone in need. Even if I can help only one person in my community, it is one less person who will go hungry.

While volunteering as a receptionist, I have heard many stories from Food Bank clients. Once I received a call from a senior who told me she lived by herself and she could not walk. The only friend that would deliver food to her had recently passed away and she was desperate. We immediately contacted our food bank agent to arranges emergency food supply for her. To this day, I have not stopped thinking about her. Most of us in our younger years and in reasonable health might not realize that seniors are vulnerable and require our care and concern; they have contributed their prime years in building our society and we should in return show them we care and provide help when they are in need.

I feel that strength is greater in numbers, and the more people who come together to help those who need it, the bigger the impact we can leave on our community. Volunteering in many ways is giving back to the community, and people should remember that they are a part of this large community and learn to support one another in any way they can.”

Thanks May, for everything you do here at TMFB!
