The Mississauga Food Bank’s 2023 Give 30 Ramadan fundraiser raised a total of $44,905, thanks to the community’s support. The first $10,000 donated was also matched by a generous anonymous donor.
The funds raised during the Give 30 campaign this Ramadan are coming at a time when The Mississauga Food Bank and its network of over 50 agencies continue to serve a growing number of neighbours in need every month. Since June 2022, The Mississauga Food Bank has seen, on average, 30% more food bank users every month compared to the same times last year, and they have seen 61% more clients this past March compared to the previous year. The largest increase in their history.
“The community heard the alarm and rose to the occasion, supporting their neighbours in need this Ramadan. I am grateful to have a community behind us who continues to step up to the plate every year for the Give 30 fundraiser,” says Meghan Nicholls, CEO at The Mississauga Food Bank. “But this rising, urgent need continues past Ramadan, and there is still more work to do to ensure our most vulnerable neighbours no longer face food insecurity. I urge you to get involved and help ensure everyone has access to healthy and appropriate food all year round.”
Give 30 has partnered with The Mississauga Food Bank since 2014 to encourage everyone, regardless of faith, to show empathy for those who experience hunger on a regular basis by donating to local food banks during Ramadan.
Thank you to community members who donated this Ramadan by hosting a fundraiser, collecting donations at an iftar, volunteering, or making a financial donation.
