Thank you to ShareLife and the Catholic Charities of Toronto for their generous grant of $25,000! These funds went towards purchasing healthy and nutritious food for over 56,000 food bank visitors who rely on Food Banks Mississauga and our network of over 60 food programs across the city. Food bank visitors like Yana*, who was a chef back in Ukraine and now works part-time on-call as a kitchen helper for a catering company. With limited work hours available, she needed a helping hand and turned to her neighbourhood food bank for support. Blinking back tears, she says,
“I’m very grateful. They have a big heart.”
Each monthly visit that Yana makes to her neighbourhood food bank allows her to make groceries stretch and temporarily ease the burden on her shoulders.
“I can feel it every day because I can save [the food] that lasts longer and every day I can take some out to cook.”
Thanks to ShareLife and the Catholic Charities of Toronto, we can purchase fresh food such as fruit, vegetables, milk and more for neighbours living with food insecurity, like Yana. Without their support, we wouldn’t be able to provide vital food support to the 1 in 13 Mississauga residents who rely on Food Banks Mississauga and our network.
