This past Ramadan, our Muslim community rallied together to raise over $140,000 in support of their neighbours experiencing food insecurity! As a part of Food Banks Mississauga’s Ramadan Give 30 fundraising campaign, Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish and Imam Dr. Hamid Slimi introduced the 30 Days of Giving: Ramadan Challenge to encourage Muslims in Mississauga to fundraise with their family or mosque or give their Zakat to provide much-needed food to neighbours experiencing poverty.
This annual Ramadan Give 30 campaign also welcomed new partners, including sponsor Islamic Relief Canada, and monetary matching donor National Zakat Foundation.
Thanks to the collective efforts, generosity and compassion of community leaders and our Muslim community, the $140,000 raised provides healthy food for 140,000 meals! This vital food support will reach almost 49,000 neighbours in need through our network of 60+ food programs across the city.
Thank you to all participating groups!
