The Mississauga Food Bank has launched their 2023 Spring Drive with the goal to raise $750,000 by April 23, 2023. The first $15,000 donated will be matched, dollar for dollar, by Scotts Canada Ltd. to provide healthy and appropriate food for twice as many meals.
The campaign launches as The Mississauga Food Bank faced another record-breaking month. The month of January saw the highest number of food bank users ever in the history of The Mississauga Food Bank with 13,326 food bank users, a 41% increase year over year. Every month that a record is broken is not a cause for celebration but an alarm bell that The Mississauga Food Bank is urgently ringing.
“The need for emergency food in our community is not decreasing and continues to grow at an alarming pace. We need your help to meet this emergency need that is only continuing to rise for our most vulnerable neighbours,” says Meghan Nicholls, CEO of The Mississauga Food Bank. “Give to grow your impact during our Spring Drive and help raise much-needed funds to support the increasing number of neighbours in need who rely on us and our network of over 50 agencies across Mississauga. ”
“Scotts Canada Ltd. is proud to partner again this year with The Mississauga Food Bank for the Spring Drive,” says Geneviève Potvin, Director of Regulatory Affairs & Stakeholder Relations at Scotts Canada Ltd. “Given the recent substantial increase of food bank users, it is more important than ever to support people facing hardship in our community by providing them with healthy and nutritious food.”
With your monetary donations, The Mississauga Food Bank can purchase food in bulk directly from manufacturers, to provide more healthy and appropriate food for neighbours in need across Mississauga. Your monetary donations during the Spring Drive also enable The Mississauga Food Bank to purchase fresh and frozen food that neighbours in need receive through unique programs; programs like the Community Market that bring fresh fruit and vegetables to the neighbourhood of neighbours in need, and the Food Bank 2 Home Delivery Program that delivers customized food orders to neighbours’ doorsteps.
Consider making a monetary donation online or organizing a fundraiser. By creating your customized Spring-themed fundraising page, you can set your own goal, share it with your friends, family and coworkers, and give back in a meaningful way this spring! Additionally, keep an eye out for our team of volunteers at your local grocery store on April 8, 15, and 22 to make a donation in person.
