A community defined by compassion
In the first weeks of the pandemic, I was deeply worried about our most vulnerable neighbours, and for our ability to keep serving them.
But you pulled together like never before to make sure that no one in our community would go hungry, no matter how hard things got.
As the crisis stretched into the summer, I think we all felt tired. Tired of the bad news, the isolation, the restrictions…and yet, you kept tirelessly caring for neighbours in need.
All summer long, you ensured families facing hunger for the first time had food on their tables. You got kids the nutritious food they need, in spite of cancelled summer programs. You delivered healthy food and warm smiles to isolated seniors, keeping them nourished and safe.
For all that you’ve done to care for hungry neighbours over such a hard summer—thank you! You’re an inspiration to us all.
We know that the aftershocks of COVID-19 will be felt for months, if not years to come. And it will be those on the margins, struggling with poverty, homelessness, and hunger, who stand to lose the most.
As we head into the fall, I ask that you keep up your tireless support. Keep proving that Mississauga is a community defined by its compassion and caring.
Please stand with us to keep vulnerable neighbours nourished and safe by donating to our Thanksgiving Food Drive. Your donation will ensure that no one in our community goes hungry, no matter what the future holds. Our goal is to raise $250,000 and 170,000 pounds of food by October 18.
It’s a big goal, but the times we’re living in call for it. And there’s no doubt in my mind—or my heart— that our community will rise to the challenge.
I wish you and your loved ones a beautiful Thanksgiving. As I gather with my loved ones, I’ll be reflecting on how grateful I am for caring supporters like you.
With all my thanks,
Meghan Nicholls
