Your support in action
Your generosity helps keep our 60+ food programs—like St. Hilary’s Food Cupboard—stocked, supported, and ready to welcome neighbours in need.
It’s Thursday morning, and the doors of St. Hilary’s Food Cupboard have just opened, welcoming neighbours in need of healthy food and support.
While St. Hilary’s is facing record-high need—like many of the 60+ food programs in our network—your generosity helps ensure that they can always be there for the people who need them.
Last year alone, your kindness helped provide nearly 25,000 pounds of nutritious food at St. Hilary’s, ensuring healthy food was ready each of the 2,200+ times neighbours visited.
Volunteers also work side by side in St. Hilary’s kitchen garden, harvesting healthy vegetables for the Food Cupboard, and bringing the community together for those who might otherwise go without.
Before joining Food Banks Mississauga’s network, keeping the shelves stocked wasn’t always easy.
“We depended on the congregation of the church to bring in donations,” explains Joanne, Food Bank Coordinator at St. Hilary’s. “Sometimes we got, and sometimes we didn’t.”
Today, thanks to caring supporters like you, that uncertainty has been replaced with stability.
“Now, there’s not a burden of saying, Are we going to have food this week?” Joanne shares. “We’ve ordered, we have food and we have storage to place all these things.”
For Joanne, that’s what makes the Food Banks Mississauga network so special.
“It’s not just us serving the community,” she says. “It’s the whole of Mississauga, doing the same thing. That’s what’s so good about having Food Banks Mississauga on our side.”
