Are you ready to End Summer Hunger? In the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing ideas for fun summer food drives. You can help make sure your neighbours don’t go hungry this season by running an event in support of The Mississauga Food Bank.
If you want to put your imagination and artistic skills to use, check out this list of creative food drives:
- Host a Summer Concert – This is a great way to bring your neighbours together for some summer entertainment! Find a venue (like a coffee shop or park) and ask local artists if they are willing to perform for a fundraiser. It can be music, poetry, stand-up comedy, or any kind of performance. Get creative! Ask guests to bring a certain weight of food or donations for admission. You can also organize an open mic and ask members of your community to be a part of the show.
- Organize a Bake Sale – No one can resist delicious home-made treats – especially when they’re for a good cause! Get together with your friends for a fun day of baking. Try out a new recipe, or have fun with the toppings and presentation. Next, set up a stand to sell some snacks. Let people know that the proceeds from the sales will help feed your hungry neighbours.
- Donate your hobby: We know our community is filled with incredible and talented individuals. Whether it’s musical lessons, painting, cooking classes, or giving advice – there are so many ways you can share your talent! Tell people you’re sharing your skills to fundraise for the food bank and ask them to make a donation in exchange for your services.
- Crafts for Cans: Get together with your friends for this hands-on fundraiser. Find old items from home or at the flea market and repurpose them for decoration, home improvement, organization, or anything your heart desires! Look for inspiration on Pinterest or community idea boards. You can ask for donations in exchange for the crafts. Alternatively, you can host an auction and have people to bid on the items!
