Meet Alexa, one of The Mississauga Food Bank’s Agency Relations Summer Students:
“I’ve lived in Mississauga my entire life, and I never knew we had a food bank. When I realized I could help those in need in my community, I was excited about the opportunity to work with our member agencies and food bank clients to improve their experiences.
On my first day, I met a woman who moved here from Syria three months prior. When I asked her how she was liking Canada so far, she began to cry and expressed how grateful she was to be here. This powerful moment made me realize what a privilege it is to live in Canada, and how important resources, such as food banks, can be for those in need. Today, I still think of this woman. That moment is one of many that motivate me to continue to work towards a better Mississauga for those in need.
I love knowing the work I am doing is meaningful and is helping those in need. Working alongside a supportive and innovative team – whose goals are dedicated to improving the lives of others – is empowering and makes coming to work a great experience each day!”
Thanks Alexa, for all that you do here at TMFB!#SpotlightSunday
