Did you know that in addition to leading and providing food to our network of 60+ agency members, Food Banks Mississauga also provides funding and opportunities for growth? One of these is the Capacity Building Fund, which is awarded to select agency members in our network to enhance food bank users’ experience, collect data, or purchase appropriate equipment.

Last year, one of the recipients was the New Life Covenant Pantry. They used the funds to purchase two upright freezers, shelving racks, storage bins, tables and a laptop to further enhance their service to neighbours facing food insecurity!

They shared,

“The impact has been tremendous; the funds have permitted our team to pre-plan, pre-purchase, preserve and receive perishable donations that can be stored until our next scheduled shift. More and more people are accessing our services each month, and we’ve seen an increase in emergency food requests. The Capacity Building Fund has also allowed us to stack grab-and-go non-perishables for individuals to choose from, rather than food items stored in boxes.”

We are happy to announce that we partnered with The Community Foundation of Mississauga this year to support with applications and fund dispersal.
