Meet Jairo, Food Bank Volunteer
Today, we’re shining the spotlight on Jairo, one of our volunteer receptionists.
Jairo began volunteering at the food bank in June when he learned that more and more people in our city are turning to food banks for support. His interest in giving back stems from his personal experience as a new Canadian.
“My family and I arrived in Canada as immigrants, I’m very grateful for the support we received from our community. When the pandemic arrived in Ontario, I felt that it was my turn to help the community in which I grew up. We’ve seen low-income families, seniors, refugees, and other vulnerable citizens really relying on us for support. The Mississauga Food Bank continues to provide a helping hand to those who need it.
I feel like I am making an impact on our community by volunteering at the food bank. Assisting clients and donors in any way I can is very fulfilling. Volunteering has allowed me to connect with my community in a unique way, and for that, I’m grateful,” says Jairo.
As a volunteer receptionist, Jairo is the first point of contact for many people when they visit or call the food bank, “the enthusiasm from other volunteers is what I love most about The Mississauga Food Bank. When screening volunteers at the start of their shifts, they are always eager and excited to get to work.”
Thank you, Jairo, for joining us in the fight against hunger in Mississauga.
