About the role

Welcome and assist community members who come to Food Banks Mississauga’s office looking for food support. You will conduct client intakes, provide referrals for food support services, and refer them to applicable community services through the Prosper Plan resource tool.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome community members who come through Food Banks Mississauga’s doors looking for food support.

  • Complete intake into Food Banks Mississauga’s network of 60+ agency members through the Link2Feed database and provide referrals to their closest food support services.

  • Provide community members with a food order form and pack custom hampers in the warehouse area.

  • Assist community members through the Prosper Plan resource tool to refer them to community resources that address various personal needs.

  • Monitor and respond to food bank visitor inquiries via email.

  • Participate in basic data analysis collection and create a program presentation for internal use.

  • Support additional projects as required, including occasional client care phone calls with the Food Bank 2 Home Delivery Program.

  • Other administrative duties related to agency relations as assigned.

Qualifications

18 years or older, with a mature, warm, and friendly demeanour.
A passion for community service work, or other related educational and work experiences.
Excellent skills in Google Suite (including Google Docs, Forms and Sheets) and MS Office; ability to learn Link2Feed client management system and other new systems quickly.
Flexible, versatile, and tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.
Excellent internal and external relationship-building skills.
Ability to assess situations to determine urgency levels and risks, and make clear, timely decisions which are in the best interests of Food Banks Mississauga.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in the English language.
Attention to detail and excellent time management and organizational skills.
Ability to show respect for privacy and dignity for those seeking emergency food support.
Experience in frontline volunteering or work in the social services sector is an asset.

Time Commitment

1 shift per week, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
